The Challenge
The Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP) is a complex, multi‑stakeholder ecosystem spanning 200 hectares and bringing together health, research, education, government and industry partners. Their existing website couldn’t keep pace with the precinct’s scale, the breadth of audience needs (researchers, investors, students, clinicians and the community), or the growing volume of content across areas like News & Events, Vision & Strategy, History and Talent & Workforce. The GCHKP team were constrained by a rigid theme and performance and accessibility that didn't meet their expectations. We were engaged to re-architect, redesign and rebuild the site with a bespoke Wordpress theme to deliver a faster, more flexible, future proofed platform that genuinely showcases the precinct’s impact.
The Solution
We led a strategy first rebuild, starting with stakeholder workshops and a full content and UX audit to simplify journeys for each audience. From there we designed a flexible Wordpress solution that would give the GCHKP team the freedom to compose rich, on-brand pages without developer help.
The reworked navigation and on-page wayfinding patterns keep users oriented and engaged. Under the hood, we optimised for speed and scalability with lean theme code, server-side caching, image optimisation and structured content models. Accessibility was baked in from day one to ensure the new website aligned with best practice principles. Finally, we introduced clear editorial workflows, reusable block patterns and permissions so the GCHKP team can maintain their website quickly and confidently.
